Mayfly Hatch is Starting

Hi Folks

Since my last fishing update it has rained, rained, and rained some more! Through all that rain fishing remained fairly solid. Fish moved into weeds and were feeding aggressively.  Weed Growth has gotten much better as of late, although still behind on some waters. We found walleyes hiding in lily pads in the middle of the day because that was the available weed.  Jig and minnow combos were working the best but now crawlers have come into play.  I’ve been taking a variety of bait with me. It seems chubs work best in the mornings then fish seem to switch to fatheads and then to crawlers as the day warms up. I’ve also been jigging fairly aggressively but still backing off hook sets for a bit once a hit happens. Weather once again has become a major player as a big cold front moved into the area dropping temps down to 33 degrees the other night. This resulted in a 5 degree drop in surface temp. Calm water and sun yesterday rocketed surface temps up 9 degrees. Needless to say fishing was very tough. To make things even more interesting the Mayfly hatch is starting or is going on waters throughout the area. This is earlier than normal.  If you run into these there are a few tricks you can try, some waters have piece-meal hatches, use your graph in sonar mode to search out where they are coming up and fish these spots. You can also try using a slip bobber tipped with a crawler head. I have used this successfully at times. Now it looks like we are going into furnace mode for a bit as the weather is supposed to get hot and humid. Looks like a bumpy road ahead but I won’t surrender to these fish. This is WAR!!! I will win in the end. Until next time have fun and successful fishing.

Wallleyes have gone Deep

Well we finished the 2nd week of the fishing season. As good as week 1 was, is as bad as week 2 has been. Last weekend’s cold front left us with a 9 degree drop in water temps and pushed most fish out to deep water and put them in a neutral pattern. Now we…Continue Reading

Opening Weekend Walleyes

Well, we finished the opening weekend of the 2016 fishing season. What a start it was! Weather was great and the only complaint was things were a little breezy. Fish were very cooperative, you don’t often see good weather and good fishing at the same time. I fished both deep clear water and dark shallow…Continue Reading

Summer bite ready to begin

We’ve been taking all the rain Mother Nature can throw at us the past 2 weeks. Mayflies, cold air and water temps in the mid 60’s have been making the bite a little bit of a roller coaster ride. You have to search out your bites and be patient. We are now coming out of…Continue Reading

Fishing is Moving Along

Hi Folks.  We finished the second week of the season and we’re moving along slowly with our bites.  While we haven’t seen anything “special” we’ve seen solid fishing and we’ve been able to put together nice catches every day.  Most days are producing 4 or 5 species of fish as everything is heading into the…Continue Reading

2015 Fishing Season has Arrived!

Hi Folks. We just completed the first weekend of the new season and what a Spectacular opener that we had “weather-wise”. This first weekend greeted us with mid-70 degree temperatures and mild winds which made for one of the most comfortable opening weekends in recent memory. Spawning has ended on virtually every lake I’ve seen…Continue Reading

Mid-Summer Fishing

Hi Folks – We are in mid-summer and fishing has remained pretty good overall. Fish have been active despite the cold fronts that have been battering the area. With walleye, we have been finding them in fairly shallow weeds, 5 to 13 feet depending on water clarity. When cold fronts hit they will move into…Continue Reading
